Cognitive Psychology is an exciting concept for me. I want to learn more about child development and cognitive psychology is where its at. Eric Erickson, a psychologist, made a big impact on this subfield of psychology. He developed the stages of development which can be used to assess if a child is progressing along with the rest of his or her peers. However, Erickson’s theory is only meant to be a guideline. For more factual information on whether your child is progressing along developmentally where they should be, visit a psychologist for a cognitive assessment. The reason for this is that within cognitive psychology, psychologists have developed measurable, standardized methods based on real empirical data to measure developmental stages. Cognitive Psychology can be fun. Memory games can be used by cognitive psychologists who seek to aid clients in increasing memory capacity. We as humans are able to learn many things over the course of our lives. It is true that the brain is like a muscle, atrophying when it isn’t used. For example, memory games may be used to strengthen memory capacity, and neglecting intellectual pursuits may lead to atrophy of cognitive abilities. Cognitive Psychology allows us as a human society to help each other learn as much as possible, and in the meantime, achieve a full potential, or at least to find out what our potential is.
